Miranda v. Arizona

(1966) A kidnapping was carried out by Ernesto Miranda in 1963. He was identified as the criminal and promptly taken into an interrogation by police. No one informed Miranda of his rights prior to his questioning. He wrote a signed confession stating the nature of his crimes and stating that he knew and understood his rights, and voluntarily waived them. Miranda was denied counsel and was sentenced to 20 years. Some argued he shouldn't have been sentenced because he wasn't informed of his rights. I think the crime is serious enough that the written and signed confession should have been accepted. He did state he understood his rights. The verdict was a little unconstitutional though.

My Favorite President Biography

Every president leaves a legend of his own, and few are quite as intersting than Richard Nixon's time in office. Richard Nixon was a Republican congressman who served as vice president under Dwight D. Eisenhower. Nixon began his time as president in 1968. He resigned on his own in 1974 after his office was caught up in the infamous watergate scandal. Nixon died in 1994 at age 81. Nixon was born in 1913 in California and was the second of five children his parents birthed. Nixon's early life was generally described as hard, as two of his brothers died from sickness early on. In 1940 Nixon married Thelma Ryan. The couple ended up having two daughters. In 1946 Nixon was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. During his first term, Richard Nixon was assigned to the Select Committee on Foreign Aid. Throughout Nixon's early political life he established himself as a passionate anti-communist. Nixon ran for vice-president during Dwight Eisenhower's presidency and some believed he was provided a slush fund. Already Nixon was rumored to be criminal in his practices. Nixon ran against John F Kennedy in the 60's in a very politically historic election. Nixon ultimately lost the election and returned to his family in California. Nixon was eventually sworn in as the 37th president of the United States on January 20, 1969. Nixon's presidency is stained yet even today as he was involved in one of the biggest political scandals ever. The Watergate complex in D.C. was robbed of information to which Nixon deied any involvement. After extensive investigatons it was found Nixon had been directly involved in an attempt to sabatage the Democratic party. A full cover-up had been linked to the white house, however Nixon always denied involvement. Impeachment was opened to Nixon so he resigned in 1974. In 1994 Nixon died of stroke.

Start-Up 2/7/14 Pd.3

Many policies and factors of our government are decreasing wealth for the middle-class. These factors include a lower average salary across the country, widened inequality, holes in the job market, high rate of poverty, record number of Americans on food stamps, low American manufacturing, too much outsourcing, and global trade debts. Many Americans are upset by the economy in America, and it seems we may need to rethink the way we do a lot of things to improve it.

Pd.3 Bellringer 12/3/13

I think the message is controversial because it has to do with an entire religion and the views of the pope of that religion. People aren't used to having politics and religion mix. They don't want their religions to be viewed as any less significant than any other religion.

Civics Pd.3 Gettysburg Assignment Zeke/Patrick

Eleven score and seventeen years ago, our forefathers established this land with certain freedoms. Freedoms which were given to us, the people in order to establish the best lives for ourselves possible. However some of these freedoms, if not used responsibly, will lead to unhealthy citizens and a damnpened society. This is an issue of tobacco products in our country. The use of tobacco in America has been a reserved freedom of those with the proper age for a very long time. We do not aim to take away this freedom, only to make sure it is followed and respected as it should be. The legal age required to buy tobacco products should be raised in order to help prevnt minors from acquiring them. Stricter tolerance laws should be enforced in places where the public health is a concern such as in schools. Our goal in making the laws regarding tobacco use more strict does not set a goal in removing your given freedoms in America. We only wish to keep our country a cleaner, and overall healthier nation. Please take these factors in to consideration, and make an effort to better yourself, your fellow citizens, and your country itself.

1. I disagree with kmarts choice in being open all day thanksgiving. As the article says i think it is unfair to employees who have to work all day. I don't believe the store should open at all on thanksgiving day. I don't believe there would be a good enough shopper turnout to even justify being open. I think this is a greedy decision. 2.
